The Nerdy Stuff
How use:
Apply directly to a VERY wet scalp
Work into a lather making sure to massage the scalp. This has the added benefit of exfoliating the scalp and allowing the flakes to wash away.
Allow to sit on the scalp for 2-3 minutes to give the active ingredients time to work.
Rinse
About dandruff...for nerds:
Dandruff occurs when dead skin is shed mostly from the scalp, but can come from other areas like the face, ears, and eyebrows. Dry skin, and imbalance in the microbiome of your scalp are the typical causes.
Things you can do to combat dandruff:
Use gentle sulfate-free shampoos that don't dry your skin our. You can also try washing your hair less often, washing 2-3 times per week is adequate for most people.
Use a shampoo containing anti-fungal ingredients (we use tea tree oil) to help restore your scalps microbiome balance. Your scalp has billions of microbes living on it, including yeast and the fungus Malassezia when they grow unchecked it can lead to dandruff.
Periodically exfoliate your scalp to reduce the buildup of dead skin cells.
Apply conditioner to the scalp. While you don't typically apply conditioner to the scalp, you can experiment with applying conditioner, which is essentially hair lotion, directly to the scalp to fight dry skin.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate - our main cleansing agent is very gentle and won't dry out your skin.
Tea Tree Oil- Thanks to it's skin soothing, and anti-microbial properties, tea tree oil has long been used to fight dandruff
Eucalyptus Oil - Like tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil soothes the skin and fights fungal infections.
Rosemary - A powerful anti-oxidant to reduce inflammation and suppress fungal growth
Get your hair really wet (more wet than you're used to) then rub across your hair 3-6 times. Scrub into a lather.
If you want more lather, you can pop your head back under the water for a second and get it more wet and you'll feel more lather.
Conditioner Instructions:
Apply the conditioner to the really wet ends of your hair. It only takes 2-3 swipes for most people, work into your hair, allow to sit for 2-5 minutes and rinse out.
To refill your SeaBar you simply twist the white Pusher Piece back down to the bottom, and push your Refill in, flat side up.

I've been using Seabar since meeting Greg at the Snohomish Farmers Market in 2025 and I'm never going back!!
I have very fine, long, high porosity hair and used to go through A LOT of shampoo, some of it didn't even work well with my hair type or hard well water. This solid shampoo is a huge game-changer. It works great with the hard well water I have to use and my hair and scalp feel so nice! I love not having to replace another big plastic shampoo bottle every month and it makes me feel so happy I get to support a small business that cares so much about the environment!
I usually lather and rinse twice until my hair sounds squeaky, then apply the SeaBar conditioner starting from the hairs at neck length all the way down to past my back. I work outdoors in the dirt and heat, so I only space out my hair wash days by one or two days.
One of the times when I refilled my SeaBar shampoo holder, I had accidentally threw away the pusher piece, so I emailed Greg and he knew exactly what went wrong and sent me a replacement piece along with my refill!!
I was skeptical before I used Sea Bar because I have very thick long hair, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got good lather and coverage from the shampoo and conditioner with only a few swipes of each container. I bought this to replace my normal shampoo/conditioner. I had tried Lush solid shampoo before and been unimpressed. this is such a different product it's not even a fair comparison - SeaBar has made my hair softer and stronger. it's very easy to use in its stick format, has no strong scents that overwhelm me, and leaves my hair and scalp feeling super clean each time I use it.
I love this shampoo bar! I usually lather rinse and repeat twice and it gets my hair super clean even in hard well water. I wear my hair half up or fully up almost all the time, but when it’s loose it goes down past my butt, so I have a lot of hair to wash. I’m a dog sitter and travel often and stay at various homes. I found Seabar at a farmers market in Snohomish, WA. It has literally changed my life. I love its “no mess” convenience and it’s a great product. I try to be as environmentally aware as possible. I’m not sure the plastic dome top is necessary as it gets thrown away. It’s way better than the bar shampoos I’ve tried. I’m hoping there will be a bar lotion version one day.

The shampoo makes my scalp feel clean and product buildup on my hair gets removed gently. The conditioner does an amazing job de-tangling my hair without being heavy and to much moisture. This product is so great I bought three sets to give as gifts. It saves space, is TSA friendly, I don't react to fragrance, it works amazing on my way hair, my daughters very curly hair and my sons straight hair. It helps to clean the ocean through their trash clean-up pledge and reduces packaging via refills. Also, shipping less water saves on reduced weight which reduces fossil fuel use. The owner is super nice too! It's a win all the way around.

In trying to use less plastic, I’ve purchased shampoo and conditioner bars from various suppliers and have been totally disappointed in the way they left my fine hair feeling like straw (looking like it, too!) Sea Bar leaves my hair feeling clean and soft and looking good…thanks for making a product that actually works great!
I discovered Sea Bar at a street fair last summer. I was having some irritated areas on my scalp and the shampoo is definitely helping. Plus my hair feels really clean. It would be really nice if you, and other companies, would use different colors or some other way to tell the shampoo and conditioner apart without my glasses on. You do know that lots of people wear glasses to read.
